Nik has been designing websites and interfaces in San Francisco and Prague since the early 90s. As a result, he’s witnessed how the role of design has gradually changed. Designers are no longer simply tasked with making interfaces for ordinary people. The main goal nowadays is not only to create a beautiful and engaging interface, but more importantly, an interface that supports business objectives. Oliver Dlouhý is the founder of a unique flight ticket search engine, which allows users to combine various flights and find the best flight connections. Within his first year, SkyPicker achieved enormous success and was ranked by New York Times blogger, Seth Kugel, as one of the top 10 internet travel companies. Robin has been a front-end developer at Wimdu since September. Previously, he was responsible for the responsive redesign of the portal, Jobs.cz. All things front-end interest him, including modular CSS, developments in HTML specification, and game-changing JavaScript frameworks. In addition, Robin is the co-founder of the Frontendisti.cz Group, has authored several open-source projects, and frequently speaks about front-end development. Martin left the world of finance in 2000 to join Etnetera, one of the leading Czech players in custom web and mobile application development. The company is not only famous for its client portfolio, but also for its casual work environment, which is based on the principles and ideas of a “free company”. Martin is also a board member of Etnetera Group, which currently includes seven companies, and responsible for financial management as well as acquisition. Martin has been involved in web development practically from the time of its start in the Czech Republic. Since then, he has witnessed a lot in the field and had a hand in some of the biggest projects in Czech internet. His main reason for joining Etnetera was the company’s use of common sense in the workplace - not only does it overrule bureaucracy and strict rules, it also prevails over normal procedures, which are often taken as unquestioned dogma in the outside world. Jiri has worked in industry and academia, hitchhiked through Europe, spent nearly 10 years in the U.S., got a Ph.D., has taught linguistic and computer science in Europe and the U.S. He finds the intersection between exacting nature of computers and the fuzziness of language fascinating.
